Rest Assured: Windows 7 Still Features the BSOD

To much interest, Microsoft recently released their open beta for Windows 7. Heck, there was so much interest that it brought down even Microsoft’s servers! But while it was on us to bring down Microsoft’s servers, it’s on them to bring down our precious computers. Their weapon of choice? Why the blue screen of death, of course!

Thanks to the intrepid work of the crew at Gizmodo, they’ve run into the BSOD after a few days of messing around. Surprisingly it looks exactly as it has for a while, the simple blue background with the traditional white text.

What’s nice is that this BSOD provided the driver that was the culprit before it automatically restarted. But, it’s pointed out, that it’d be nice if it were to identify exactly what type of component (video, sound, USB, etc.) was to blame, for people that aren’t looking to learn how to read code.

Still though, we’re willing to let this one slide. It is a beta after all. And a public one at that! Aren’t all these crashes, in some convoluted way, the point of all this?

Cryptographic Protokol

By Tedi Heriyanto

The

A protocol is a series of steps that involve two or more parties and is designed to complete a task. From this definition can be taken several meanings as follows:

* Have a protocol sequence from start to end;
* Each step must be carried out in turns;
* A step can not be done if the previous steps have not been completed;
* Required two or more parties to implement the protocol;
* Protocol must achieve a result;

Besides, a protocol also have other characteristics, namely:

* Each person involved in the protocol must first know about the protocol and all measures will be implemented;
* Each person involved in the protocol must agree to follow;
* Protocol should not cause confusion;
* Protocol must be complete;

Cryptographic protocol is a protocol that uses cryptography. This protocol involves a number of cryptography algorithms, but the general purpose of the protocol more than just confidentiality. The parties may wish to participate to share some of the secret to calculate a value, resulting in random order, or even sign the contract at the same time. The use of cryptography, especially in a protocol intended to prevent or detect the eavesdropping and cheating.

Function Protocol

In our lives every day there are many unofficial protocol, such as in a game card, vote in elections. But no one is thinking about the protocols, the protocols is growing, people know how to use it.

Currently, more and more interaction between people is done through computer networks. Computer is, of course, require a formal protocol to be able to do things that normal people do without thinking. When we move from one region to another and know that the election card with a different voice that we normally use, we can adapt easily. However, this capability has not been owned by the computer, so that a protocol is needed.

Mengabtraksikan protocol used to process a task of the mechanisms used. Communication protocol is implemented on the same even if the PC or VAX. If we believe that we have a good protocol, we can implement in all things from phone to smart toaster.

The protocol for

Cryptographic attack could be on the following:

* Cryptographic algorithms used in the protocol;
* Cryptographic techniques used to implement algorithms and protocols;
* Protocol itself;

One can try different ways to attack a protocol. Those not involved in the protocol can extract some or all of the protocol. This is called passive attack, because the attacker does not affect or change the protocol, it was only the protocol and try to obtain information.

In addition, an attacker can try to change the protocol for their own benefits. It can send messages in the protocol, delete the message, or even change the existing information in a computer. Actions is called the attack on, because it requires an active intervention.

The attacker did not only come from the environment outside the protocol, but it may also come from in the protocol itself, it can be one of the parties involved in the protocol. Type of offense of this kind is called the Cheater. Passive Cheater follow protocol, but try to obtain more information than that allowed for the protocol itself. Cheater active in efforts to change the protocol to fudge.

Efforts to keep the security protocol will be more difficult if the parties involved are generally active Cheater, because of a protocol that both should be able to or should be secure against the possibility of passive cheating.

PC Magazine Stops the Presses - Online Only

I grew up reading PC Magazine and I looked forward each couple weeks to picking up my copy of PC Magazine at the local grocery store. But today, Ziff Davis has announced that the legendary PC Magazine print publication is shutting down its print publication and focusing exclusively on online content. This is truly a sad day... Hold on while I grab some tissues...

PC Magazine started the whole in-depth comparative reviews of PCs and Microsoft software. They expanded later to including gadgets, MP3 players, mobile phones, GPS, and other technology. PC Magazine offered insightful tech tips and great columnists like John C. Dvorak. Back in the 80s and 90s the print publication was 400-500 pages, making for hours of tech- reading pleasure. Today, it's down to 150 pages and soon to be 0 (January 2009).

Well, I guess it's "greener" that way. But I for one will miss my print copy of PC Magazine.

Free snom Flexor CTI for Outlook Application offers Advanced Telephony Features

Snom and Camrivox today announced free VoIP telephony integration with Microsoft Outlook with snom Flexor CTI software for Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft Outlook is the most widely used contact manager with a market share of over 60% of email users. A free CTI app for snom's VoIP phones? I remember the days where you had to pay thousands of dollara for a CTI server. No CTI server required for this app nor the thousands of dollars!

The highlights of this integration are:
  • On-screen Click-to-Dial makes calling really simple and screen pop-ups when someone calls
  • Calls, made or received, automatically create a journal entry with the call details to build up a call log
  • Supports Microsoft Outlook 2003 & 2007
snom Flexor CTI enables users of snom's 3xx series and snom 820 VoIP telephones to integrate their telephony with Outlook. Benefits include click-to-dial, contact screen pop-ups and call logs. Once the snom Flexor CTI software is downloaded onto a user's desktop it automatically integrates the snom telephone with Microsoft Outlook.

snom Flexor CTI for Outlook also enables click-to-dial of phone numbers dialed straight from Outlook, as well as on-screen call control, contact screen pop-ups for incoming calls, and call reporting. Users can also record notes in Outlook Journal entries during a call and have these saved against each contact record to generate a structured call log for each contact.

The snom Flexor CTI software is also available to integrate snom VoIP telephones with professional solutions for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM, NetSuite and Salesforce.
